Killarney - Glengarry - SW Calgary Real Estate
First established in 1906, the development of the Killarney community didn't really pick up speed until after WW II when bungalows and clapboard homes were constructed. Now these homes are being replaced by larger modern types of homes, or in some cases are being lovingly restored and expanded to accommodate today's tastes. The 2012 population of Killarney was 6,816, an increase over the previous year which indicates popularity amongst Calgary homeowners. Homes in the area, of which there are 3,679, range in price from approximately $350,000 to $1,500,000.
Transit
Two bus routes -- 6 and 106 -- service the Killarney community, with a stop at 26th Avenue and 37th Street West. North, roughly along 7th Avenue SW to 10th Avenue SW runs the CTrain, with the nearest station at Bow Trail SW and Spruce Drive SW.
Parks & Recreation
Killarney has a few green spaces spread throughout its community, most notably the one which houses the Killarney Aquatic and Recreational Centre. Features of this facility include a fitness center, hot tub, pool, and a variety of classes like fitness, dancing, swimming and martial arts. To the north is the Bow River and accompanying walking trails, and to the west shortly is the Optimist Athletic Park, a much larger park than any of those available directly within the community.
