A new community built around open space
Hotchkiss was planned with the outdoors front and centre: more than 50 acres of park space, a network of trails and a 33-acre reconstructed wetland complex anchor the community. Its position on higher southeast ground means many sites enjoy views toward the Rocky Mountains to the west and open prairie to the east. Built by a partnership of Hopewell Residential and Qualico Communities, Hotchkiss is planned to grow to roughly 2,300 homes and 6,000 to 7,000 residents over the coming years, with a fire hall and other community infrastructure planned as it matures.
Schools
A public elementary school is planned within Hotchkiss as the community builds out. Until it opens, students are designated to schools in the surrounding southeast communities — the Seton and Auburn Bay area, including Joane Cardinal-Schubert High School for older students. School designations in brand-new communities change as enrolment grows and new schools open, so always confirm the current boundaries with the public and Catholic boards.
Location and commute
Hotchkiss sits in Calgary’s deep southeast, just east of Stoney Trail between 146th Avenue SE and Highway 22X. That ring-road access makes getting around the city quick, and you’re only minutes from the shops and restaurants of South Trail Crossing, the Seton Urban District and Mahogany Village Market. The South Health Campus hospital and the Seton YMCA are a short drive away, and the downtown commute typically runs 30 to 40 minutes.
The Hotchkiss market
As one of the city’s newest communities, Hotchkiss is almost entirely new construction — affordable duplexes through laned and front-garage single-family homes from a roster of Calgary’s popular builders, with more product arriving as the community grows. Because it’s so early in its life, listing inventory is limited and changes quickly. Ask me for the latest CREB® price bands and a look at what’s currently available before you start your search.
