A private lake with its own island
The lake is the showpiece: 43 acres of water with a sandy beach, an island, and a surrounding park managed by the residents association. Summers mean swimming, paddling, fishing and beach volleyball; winters bring maintained skating ice, hockey and tobogganing hills. Tennis courts and year-round programming round out the membership, which comes with home ownership in the community.
Just as compelling is the ridge. Homes along McKenzie Lake’s western escarpment back onto the Bow River valley with mountain views, and Fish Creek Provincial Park — more than 100 kilometres of trails — sits directly across the river. For walkers, cyclists and fly fishermen, the setting is hard to beat.
Schools
The community is self-sufficient for the early grades. McKenzie Lake School serves public elementary students, Mountain Park School covers the public middle years, and Cardinal Newman School offers a Catholic K-9 program — all within the neighbourhood. High school students are designated to nearby schools in the southeast; confirm the current assignments with the school boards as they do get adjusted.
Location and commute
McKenzie Lake sits north of Stoney Trail (Marquis of Lorne) and east of the Bow River, with quick connections to Deerfoot Trail. Downtown commutes generally run 25 to 35 minutes, and 130th Avenue’s full shopping corridor is just a few minutes north. Despite the mature, tucked-away feel, you’re never far from anything.
The McKenzie Lake market
This is an established move-up market. The community runs from the occasional townhome through detached family homes up to ridge and lakefront estates at the top end. Most homes here were built through the late 1980s and 1990s, and many have been extensively updated — condition and renovations make a real difference to value, so pricing one correctly takes local knowledge.
