A lake, two beaches and 74 acres of wetland
The lake is the heart of everything here. At more than 60 acres, it's the biggest swimmable lake in the city, with two sandy beaches reserved for residents. The main Beach Club runs programming all year — swim time, fitness classes, kids' activities — while the quieter West Beach offers volleyball, a fishing pier and picnic areas. Winter doesn't slow things down either: the lake becomes one of the best skating surfaces in Calgary, with cleared rinks and fire pits.
Beyond the water, Mahogany's 74-acre naturalized wetland gives residents a genuine nature reserve inside the neighbourhood, ringed by pathways I'd put up against any in the city. Westman Village adds something no other lake community has: a walkable urban village of restaurants, shops and services.
Schools
Young families are well served. Mahogany School gives public elementary students a school they can walk or bike to, and Divine Mercy School provides a Catholic option right in the community. Older public students attend Joane Cardinal-Schubert High School in neighbouring Seton, just minutes away. As with any growing area, it's worth confirming current designations with the school boards — boundaries here have shifted as the community has built out.
Location and commute
Mahogany sits in Calgary's deep southeast, immediately east of Seton's urban district and the South Health Campus hospital. Stoney Trail is minutes from your driveway, which puts most of the city — and the mountains — within easy reach. The commute downtown via Deerfoot Trail typically runs 30 to 40 minutes at peak times, and the planned Green Line LRT is intended to bring rail transit to this corner of the city.
The Mahogany market
Mahogany offers one of the widest price ranges in the southeast. Condos and townhomes, many of them in Westman Village, sit at the entry end of the market; family detached homes make up the broad middle; and lakefront and estate properties anchor the top. That breadth means the community works for first-time buyers, move-up families and downsizers alike.
Thinking about buying or selling in Mahogany?
I've been selling southeast Calgary real estate since 2005, and Mahogany has been a core part of my business since the first lots were released.
