Three hundred acres of protected reserve
The environmental reserve is Legacy’s signature. Rather than building to every edge, the developer set aside roughly 300 acres of ravine and ridge land, then threaded about 15 kilometres of pathways through and around it. Residents walk, run and cycle past ponds, prairie grassland and stands of trees that will never be developed.
Inside the community, a dozen playgrounds keep young families happy, and Legacy Township — along with the community’s other commercial corners — covers groceries, restaurants, fitness and services without leaving the neighbourhood. It’s a new community that already functions like an established one.
Schools
All Saints High School, a Catholic high school that opened in 2018, sits right in Legacy — unusual for a community this young. Younger students are currently designated to schools in nearby communities while new schools come on stream; a public school for the community has been in the works, so check the latest with both boards. School designations in growing areas like this can change quickly, and I keep current on them for my clients.
Location and commute
Legacy sits at Calgary’s southern edge, east of Macleod Trail and south of Stoney Trail, with quick access to both. The ring road has transformed commuting from here: most of the city is reachable without surface streets, and the drive downtown typically runs 30 to 40 minutes. Shawnessy’s shopping and LRT stations are about ten minutes away.
The Legacy market
Legacy covers nearly every price point, from condos and townhomes through detached family homes up to estate homes backing the reserve. Newer builds, varied product and steady demand make this one of the south’s most active markets. Ask me for the latest CREB® price bands before you start your search.
Thinking about buying or selling in Legacy?
I’ve been selling southeast and south Calgary real estate since 2005, and Legacy has become a bigger part of my business every year. Whether you’re buying your first townhome or selling an estate home on the ridge, call or text me at 403-923-7253 — the home evaluation is free, and so is the advice.
