Lake Sundance, with Fish Creek next door
Lake Sundance gives residents a true four-season amenity: swimming, sailing, paddleboarding and fishing in summer, then skating and hockey once the ice goes in. The beach, clubhouse and park are maintained through the residents association, and the programming calendar keeps the lake busy year-round.
Then step outside the community and you’re in Fish Creek Provincial Park, one of the largest urban parks in North America, which borders Sundance to the north and east. Sikome Lake’s public swimming area is minutes away, and the park’s trail network means you can bike or walk for hours without crossing a major road. Few Calgary communities offer this much water and wilderness in one address.
Schools
Sundance has one of the strongest school line-ups in the south. Sundance School and Fish Creek School cover public elementary, Mid-Sun School handles junior high, and Centennial High School sits right in the community — a rare full K-12 public pathway without leaving the neighbourhood. Father James Whelihan School provides a Catholic K-9 option as well. Confirm current boundaries with the boards as always.
Location and commute
Sundance fronts onto Macleod Trail in Calgary’s south, with Stoney Trail close by and the Shawnessy shopping district across the road. Commuters have real choices here: the drive downtown typically takes 30 to 40 minutes, or you can park at the nearby Somerset-Bridlewood or Shawnessy LRT stations and ride the Red Line in.
The Sundance market
This is a mature market built mostly of detached family homes on generous lots, with lakefront and estate homes at the top end. Inventory is limited — people tend to stay in Sundance for decades — and when a lake-facing listing does appear, it rarely lasts long. Ask me for the latest CREB® price bands before you start your search.
